Drop Cap "N"
Objective
As part of a class assignment, two students were given a single character. Each student developed his own original Drop Cap design based on that character. The two design solutions did a face-off to determine the "winner".
Process
I, along with a fellow classmate, was given the letter "N" to create a Drop Cap for.
I started by jotting down words that started with the letter "N" in my sketchbook and tried to sketch concepts based on those words. From these words I picked out "New York", "noisy", and "night". The noise aspect is shown by using it as a subtle texture. I created the buildings in Illustrator and played with opacity and layering to give depth and make sure the graphic was readable as an "N" on its own.
